The grounds of MISD Multipurpose Stadium proved to be a showcase for both the Midlothian and Heritage boys’ and girls’ cross country teams, as each claimed a team championship at the annual James Smith Invitational on Thursday, Aug. 28.
After a break-even weekend in the Grapevine-Colleyville Heritage Classic, the Midlothian Lady Panthers returned to the friendly confines of MHS Arena on Tuesday night and got involved in a marathon five-set battle with Class 6A No. 2-ranked Mansfield High before finally dropping a 16-25, 25-22, 25-11, 32-34, 20-18 decision.
The Heritage Jaguars have developed an annual rivalry with Stephenville over the last few years, but on Friday night the visiting Yellow Jackets brought to Don Floyd Field at MISD Multipurpose Stadium a squad that could challenge for another state championship in its division. Jackets quarterback Trot Jordan passed for 195 yards and three touchdowns — including a 55-yard flea flicker on their first play — and the Jaguars could get very little going on offense against a stout Stephenville defense in a 28-7 loss to open the 2025 season for both teams.
CEDAR HILL — For more than a half in Friday night’s season-opener, the Midlothian Panthers held their own against a Class 6A Cedar Hill team rebounding from a down year in 2024.
The rains that fell across much of Texas last week were right on cue. It always seems to rain just before the opener of dove season.
GRANBURY — The Midlothian volleyball Lady Panthers played their way into the championship bracket of the Granbury Tournament last weekend before exiting with a pair of losses on Saturday.
HILLSBORO — Heritage senior Jenna Jacobsen and sophomore Jake Mooney each cruised to gold medal victories as the Jaguars dominated both divisions at the Hillsboro Invitational on Friday at Wallace Park.
KAUFMAN — Two Midlothian High School runners brought home gold medals, and the MHS cross country teams finished in second place in both the boys’ and girls’ divisions at the Kaufman Run with the Lions meet on Saturday at the Kaufman Sports Complex.
GLEN ROSE — The Heritage High School volleyball team continued to work on growing pains over the weekend as they won three matches and dropped five at the Glen Rose Varsity Tournament.
